PAWLEY PARK POOL + RECREATION CENTER

Located in the Coachella Valley and part of the Desert Recreation District, the Pawley Pool Aquatic Facility serves the City of Indio and surrounding neighborhoods. The facility provides a 4,500 SF bathhouse and an 8,600 SF recreational pool. The architecture provides an entry check-in area and men’s and women’s lockers, showers, restrooms and changing areas. Staff areas include cashier stations, offices, changing area, restroom, a guard instruction/break room and first aid area. Additionally, there is a concession space with adjacent outdoor eating areas, a storage room, pool mechanical and chemical rooms along with outdoor showers and lockers for patrons. The facility serves the public with family swim time, lessons for all ages and a splash party rental space.

The architecture opens to a 21,000 SF pool deck with a combination of chaise lounges, shade umbrellas and structures and sunning areas surrounding the recreational pool. The pool provides a zero-depth beach-type entry and gradually slopes to a maximum 7’ depth. The pool features a large interactive water play structure with 25+ features, three waterslides and a 150-gallon tipping bucket. Swimming, water volleyball and basketball round out the recreational activities. The new aquatic center features an iconic dual flume water slide, including one open flume at 205’ long and one enclosed speed slide at 190’ long. The slides will emanate from a 29’ high slide tower with shade on top and terminate in a slide receiving pool, also utilized for learn-to-swim classes when the slides are not in use. Our Los Angeles aquatic center architects developed the design and site planning strategy to connect to a public park and middle school.
